Alabama Falls Friday in Game Two, 12-4, as Florida Evens Weekend Series

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alabama softball fell to Florida, 12-4, in five innings Friday evening as the weekend series between the teams is now even heading into Saturday's game three.
Alabama (31-17, 8-9 SEC) trailed Florida (38-10, 10-7 SEC) early as the home team hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first before adding three more runs in the second to take the 4-0 lead. With two on and one out in the top of the fourth, Salen Hawkins roped a three-run home run down the left field line, her first long ball of the year, to make it a one-run game. Later in the inning, Kali Heivilin hit a hard single that hopped over the shortstop to drive in the tying run.
Florida took the lead back in the next half-inning, scoring five runs on four hits to make it 9-4. With two on and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Taylor Shumaker ended the game early with a three-run home run to give the Gators the 12-4 run rule victory in five innings.
