
Tide Closes Action in Shortened, Final Day of Battle on the Bayou

Due to inclement weather, the meet was ultimately cancelled with only four collegiate events remaining
BATON ROUGE, La. – For the second consecutive day, an Alabama track and field pairing recorded marks that placed in the top 12 nationally this season at the Battle on the Bayou. UA field student-athlete Mye'Joi Williams launched the fourth-farthest women's shot put mark in the nation (17.23m | 56-6.50), while Jekovan Rhetta (10.30) recorded the 12th-fastest 100-meter time nationally this season. Williams now holds a share of the fifth-farthest mark in UA history.
Also highlighting the final day was the Crimson Tide's men's shot put trio. Christopher Crawford (19.07m | 62-6.75) captured the event title, as Trevor Gunzell (18.84m | 61-9.75) finished second and Christopher Young (18.70m | 61-4.25) took fourth. Crawford now holds the eighth-farthest mark in program history.

"There were several positives to take away from this weekend and there were some other areas where we hoped for better results. This is a learning experience, and we'll use it as motivation to keep improving throughout the rest of the outdoor season. Now, our focus shifts to moving forward and preparing for our home meet in the next two weeks."
