
Mark Sears Named a Top 10 Candidate for the 2025 Bob Cousy Award

Annual award recognizes the top point guard in all of college basketball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's basketball guard Mark Sears is one of 10 candidates selected to the 2025 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Watch List, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday.
Named after Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor now in its 22nd year recognizes the top point guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
Mark Sears Notes
- Sears is one of three players in the SEC named to the 2025 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Watch List
- Currently Sears is the only SEC player to rank in the top-five in both scoring (No. 4, 18.1 ppg) and assists (5.1 apg)
- Sears became the 82nd player in Division I history with 2,500 career points and is the current active leader with 2,549 points in Division I
- During conference play, the native of Muscle Shoals, Ala. ranks first in assists (6.7 apg) and third in points (18.2)
- Since 2004, Sears is the 24th player throughout Division I to have 63 career games scoring 20 points or more and is currently the only active player in Division I
- Named the Southeastern Conference Preseason Player of the Year while earning a Preseason All-SEC First Team selection
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in both of the remaining rounds starting on Friday, February 7, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process. In March, the Top 10 list will be narrowed to just five, and in late March, the five finalists will be presented to Cousy, Lieberman, and the Hall of Fame's selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Bob Cousy and Nancy Lieberman Awards are composed of top men's and women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.Â
