Doris Lemngole Named SEC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year

The Crimson Tide’s standout sophomore runner was voted the winner alongside Arkansas’ Sanu Jallow-Lockhart
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama track and field's Doris Lemngole was named the Southeastern Conference 2024 Women's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday.
The women's 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter record holder is the first UA runner since Mercy Chelangat (2023) to earn win the award for the Crimson Tide.
Lemngole and Alabama begin postseason action Thursday in College Station, Texas, for the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Doris Lemngole – 2024 SEC Women's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year
- Maintains a 4.00 grade point average, majoring in sport management
- Has competed in four races during her sophomore campaign, finishing first collegiately in all four
- Named the USTFCCCA Division I Women's National Athlete of the Week earlier this season after breaking the women's 5,000-meter NCAA record
- Holds the collegiate record for both the women's 3,000 and 5,000-meter races
- Named the SEC and USTFCCCA's Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year during the 2024 cross country season
- Named to the Dean's List twice and the President's List once
- 2024 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll member and USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree
