
Alabama Closes SEC Championships with Silver Medal, School Record

Both the men’s and women’s teams finished the conference championships in sixth place in the team standings
ATHENS, Ga. – The Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded the Southeastern Conference Championships with a silver medal and a school record.
Avery Wiseman recorded a silver medal in the 200 breaststroke to pace the Crimson Tide on the final day of competition. The second-place finish was the best for the UA senior in the event and her second-career podium finish after placing third in the 200 breaststroke in 2023.
Zarek Wilson, Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves and Toni Dragoja, surpassed the Alabama 400 freestyle relay standard to pace the men's side of competition.
Both teams finished sixth in the standings as the men's squad recorded 667 points and the women's team tallied 620.
Meet Highlights
- Wiseman recorded her second medal in the event after earning bronze in 2023
- The men's 400 freestyle relay team of Wilson, Hawke, Alves and Dragoja broke the UA record, set in 2023, by nearly three tenths of a second
- The women's 400 free relay team of Cadence Vincent, Jada Scott, Emily Jones and Diana Petkova raced to a season-best 3:12.55 to finish fourth in event
- Leonardo Alcantara captured the second-fastest mile time in program history, reaching the wall with a 14:45.45 for seventh place
- Jada Scott bettered a career-best preliminary swim of 48.19 with a 47.94 in the finals of the 100 freestyle, placing fourth overall at the meet and moving to fifth all-time in program history
- Cadence Vincent would finish fifth in the sprint freestyle event with a time of 48.08 after clocking a career-best 48.05 during the morning session
- Tommy Hagar used a career-best 1:39.77 in the 200 backstroke to earn a spot in the A finals, before posting a 1:40.31 for sixth place in the championship heat
- In addition to Hagar, UA swimmers Cole Witmer (1:41.69), Brendan Conners (1:42.04) and Jarrett Payne (1:42.49) turned in career-best performances during the day to rank seventh, eighth and 10th all-time, respectively, at UA in the 200 backstroke event
- Nigel Chambers battled his way up the rankings on the platform, securing a 323.55 to finish 13th in the prelims
- The freshman diver would continue to climb in the consolation round, scoring a 338.45 for 11th place
- Trey Sheils (1:53.59), Lance Johnson (1:54.00), and Mark Underwood (1:54.36) captured career-best performances in the 200 breaststroke finals, while Kaique Alves (41.92) and Charlie Hawke (42.16) recorded personal bests in the 100 freestyle finals
- Toni Dragoja secured a career-best 100 freestyle swim (42.10) during the preliminary races as Noah Saylor captured a career-best 200 breast (1:54.98) during the morning session
