The Crimson Tide pitching staff allowed just three hits in the victory
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Alabama baseball leaned on its stable of arms on Saturday, earning a 4-0 win over No. 12 NC State at the Jax College Baseball Classic in Jacksonville, Fla. The win improves UA to a perfect 7-0 to open the 2025 season.
Riley Quick (2-0) made his second start of the new spring and overwhelmed the Wolfpack. Quick surrendered just one hit in his 4.0 innings, picking up four strikeouts. Matthew Heiberger and Hagan Banks were effective in their appearances out of the bullpen, each producing scoreless outings. Carson Ozmer earned his second save of the season, covering the final 1.1 innings of the game and adding a strikeout.
Brennen Norton finished 1-for-4, launching his second home run of the spring in the fourth. Will Plattner was also 1-for-4, lining an RBI-double into left to plate the game's first run in the second. Richie Bonomolo Jr.'s lone hit was an RBI-single to right to add a late insurance run in the sixth. Kade Snell was 2-for-4, the only player on either side to manage multiple hits.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"It really starts with your starting pitching, and (Riley Quick) did an unbelievable job. He really set the tone and honestly got better as the night went along. I thought his best stuff might have been in the third and fourth, but he was outstanding. The theme of the night was really how we threw the baseball. (Matthew) Heiberger was outstanding, (Hagan) Banks was outstanding, (Carson) Ozmer came in and didn't even have his best stuff against the lefties, but he's a vet. He just competed through it. We had some timely hitting, I thought we could have executed a tick-better early, maybe could have given ourselves a little bit more of a cushion, but that's a good team over there. Now we turn our attention to trying to finish the weekend, so I want to see this group be mature and have a quick turnaround and finish this thing tomorrow."
