The Crimson Tide won two consecutive doubles matches before sweeping singles play for the team victory
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 18 Alabama men's tennis team swept Presbyterian in a 7-0 victory Friday night, moving the Crimson Tide to an 8-1 record on the season.
Alabama dominated doubles action as Matias Ponce De Leon and Roan Jones dropped just one game and Damien Nezar and Andrii Zimnokh gave up just two for the opening point of the match. Momentum would carry into singles action as the Tide won all six matches in two sets. Ponce De Leon captured the first point on court three before Filip Planinsek, court 1, and Roan Jones, court 2, clinched the team victory, respectively. Matic Kriznik, Zach Foster and Zimnokh would round out the match with wins on courts, five, six and four, respectively, as Presbyterian dropped to 3-4 on the year.
From Head Coach George Husack
"Tonight was important for our team in many ways. First and foremost, we needed to play an outdoor, night match. We've been indoors for a while, and it takes time to get settled in outside especially when the sun goes down. Secondly, we needed to see how we'd respond after an emotional high last weekend at FSU. Our guys faced some challenging moments tonight and also put pressure on themselves that resulted in some anxiety. They stayed focused and competed well. Lastly, we found areas that we can improve next week in practice, so we are clear on our plans for the SEC opening weekend. This was a good non-conference stretch for the team and we've made notable strides since the start of the year. Now the fun starts with the conference season and I'm confident our guys are ready for the challenge ahead.
