The Crimson Tide senior registered her first-career 10.0 on the floor exercise, as Hudson now holds a Perfect Score on vault, beam and floor
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Senior Lilly Hudson captured her first career 10.0 score on the floor exercise to propel the No. 14 Alabama gymnastics program (3-5, 0-5 SEC) to a second-place finish at the Zou to the Lou Friday night.
No. 9 host school Missouri (11-3, 2-2 SEC) won via a 197.150 team score. Having to count a fall on the balance beam, the Tide took second with a 196.675, while Illinois (6-8, 2-2 Big Ten) took third with a 196.225. Iowa (2-5, 2-2 Big Ten) finished last, scoring a 195.000.
Hudson took a share of the event titles on both floor and vault as Corinne Bunagan joined Hudson at the top of vault. Alabama's team score of 49.575 on floor is a season high, while the Tide's 49.225 on vault became the second-highest of the year.
Alabama Head Coach Ashley Johnston Said
"There were a lot of breakthrough moments tonight, and then a couple too many moments that didn't quite go the way that we wanted them to go. I think every opportunity is a learning lesson. As we circled up in the locker room after the meet, we talked about the fight and the grit that they showed in responding to having to kind of fall on beam. I think that was a tremendous takeaway that this team invested in finishing strong and giving it everything that they had on floor and vault and that's an important lesson to have to learn. The other thing that we talked about was what Coach [Patrick] Murphy told his team last year as [Alabama] softball was going through kind of a rough patch in their season. I love that Coach Murphy said, 'every team has a different length of a runway before they take off,' and I think that's the storyline of this team this year, is that we've needed a little bit longer runway to take off and really fly. I think we've shown a lot of signs of that, and we've got keep going, keep our head down, keep pushing, keep working to really see this team take off. I believe they have all the puzzle pieces to be great and one of the best in the country, and we're going to continue to work our absolute hardest to be able to perform that way on a Friday night."
