
Mark Sears Named a Top 20 Candidate for the 2025 Wooden Award Watch List

Annual award recognizes the top player in all of college basketball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's basketball guard Mark Sears is one of 20 candidates selected to the 2025 Wooden Award Late Midseason Watch List presented by Principal, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Selected by a panel of national college basketball experts, the list comprises 20 student-athletes who are frontrunners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball: the Wooden Award All-American Team and the Wooden Award® Most Outstanding Player.
Mark Sears Notes
- Sears is one of four players in the SEC named to the 2025 Wooden Award Watch List
- Currently Sears is the only SEC player to rank in the top-five in both scoring (No. 3, 17.8 ppg) and assists (No. 3, 4.9 apg)
- Sears became the 82nd player in Division I history with 2,500 career points and ranks second among active players with 2,578 points in Division I
- During conference play, the native of Muscle Shoals, Ala. ranks second in assists (6.0 apg) and sixth in points (17.6 ppg)
- Since 2004, Sears is the 23rd player throughout Division I to have 63 career games scoring 20 points or more and is currently the only active player in Division I
- Named the Southeastern Conference Preseason Player of the Year while earning a Preseason All-SEC First Team selection
