Former Alabama players make an impact in Week 12 of the NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League concluded Week 12 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs overwhelmed the New York Giants in his team's 34-27 overtime victory on Sunday. Gibbs logged 15 carries and turned them into a career-high 219 yards and two touchdowns, marking the third-highest single-game rushing total in Lions history. The third year back added 11 receptions for 45 yards and another score, giving him a career-high 264 scrimmage yards in the victory. On the defensive side, safety Brian Branch tallied seven tackles, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry in the winning effort.
In primetime on Sunday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles' duo of Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith delivered strong performances. Hurts finished 27-of-39 through the air for 289 yards and a touchdown and added seven rushes for 33 yards and two scores. Smith accounted for nearly a third of Hurts' passing yardage, hauling in six catches for 89 yards.
Running back Derrick Henry was a bright spot for the Baltimore Ravens once again, recording 21 carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a pair of receptions for 24 yards in a 23-10 win over the New York Jets.
On the opposite side of the ball, the Houston Texans' defensive duo of Will Anderson Jr. and Henry To'oTo'o kicked off the week with big performances in a 23-19 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football. Anderson Jr. compiled six tackles, including 2.5 sacks and two tackles for loss, to go with one pass breakup and a trio of quarterback hurries. To'oTo'o impressed as well, collecting seven tackles, including one sack and a tackle for loss, to go with his two quarterback hurries.
Also on defense, linebacker Dallas Turner notched three tackles, including a sack and one tackle for loss, paired with two quarterback hurries for the Minnesota Vikings. Up front, Carolina Panthers' defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson produced seven tackles and one quarterback pressure to cap off the week on Monday Night Football.
