The Crimson Tide collected three singles victories and won one doubles match
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The No. 22 Alabama women's tennis (0-1) fell to Furman (1-0), 4-3, on Monday in its season opener. Petra Sedlackova, Maria Martinez Vaque and Sara Nayar highlighted the Crimson Tide as all three earned singles victories, while Klara Milicevic and Nayar collected UA's sole doubles win.
Match Notes
- Klara Milicevic and Sara Nayar created momentum early on with a 3-1 score heading into the fifth point before defeating Alexa Griffith and Marissa Pennings, 6-3, to earn Alabama's sole doubles win
- Margaux Maquet and Maria Martinez Vaque would battle on court one but would ultimately drop their match to Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder, 6-0
- With both Alabama and Furman having won one doubles match each, it came down to court two for the final result
- Petra Sedlackova and Maria Andrienko brought the match to a tie twice before Jess Dawson and Macy Hitchcock found a break at 4-3 to hold the advantage en route to securing the doubles point for Furman with a 6-3 victory
- To open singles play, Sedlackova won set one, 6-1, before Furman's Dawson forced a third set after winning set two, 6-2. Sedlackova would go on to defeat Dawson, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1, to earn Alabama's first singles win
- Martinez Vaque forced a third set against Schulson to claim the Tide's second singles win on the day (4-6, 7-6(3), 6-2)
- Both Milicevic and Andrienko dropped their singles matches to Snyder (7-5, 7-5) and Pennings (6-3, 6-4), respectfully
- The final two matches of the day went into three sets as the score sat in Furman's favor, 3-2
- Sara Nayar was ahead 5-0 in the third set before Furman's Grace Thomas retried (2-6, 7-6(3), 5-0(Ret.))
- Margaux Maquet fell to Macy Hitchcock in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) which gave the Paladins the winning point

- Alabama will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend
- The Tide will open with North Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 25 before playing either Arizona State or Wisconsin on Sunday, Jan. 26
