The Crimson Tide opens conference play next week at No. 15 Tennessee
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a hard-fought effort against 18th-ranked Florida State Saturday at Foster Auditorium, falling by set scores of 23-25, 23-25 and 13-25.
Alabama (8-3) hung right with Florida State (8-2) for the majority of set one, trailing by four at set point before rattling off three in a row as the Seminoles took a timeout at 24-23. The visitors would eventually take the opener, 25-23, and set two would play out in much the same way. Trailing 20-16, the Crimson Tide went on a 5-1 run to tie it at 21-21. A kill later from Chaise Campbell would again make the score 24-23 before a Florida State kill gave them another 25-23 decision. The Seminoles started to pull away around the halfway mark of set three, winning the frame by 12 points to take the match in three sets.
FROM HEAD COACH RASHINDA REED
"I thought these ladies really fought today. The lesson from today's match is that we need to finish. We need to compete all the way to the end. I thought the first two sets we were putting everything out there and the last we took out foot off the gas and that's just something we need to continue to work through. It was an improvement from Wednesday's match in that we were really out there fighting and not coasting. From the start we were out there competing and battling."
