No. 7 Alabama in 13th After Opening Round of OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The No. 7 Alabama men's golf team is in 13th place after the opening 18 holes at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational. The Crimson Tide opened the three-day, 54-hole event Friday with a team score of 11-over par 291.
The Tide will tee of second round action at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitation, which is being contested at the par 70, 7,353-yard Olympia Fields Country Club, at 9 a.m. CT off hole No. 10 paired alongside Baylor and Michigan.
Round One Highlights
- Dominic Clemons and Jonathan Griz carded matching scores of 2-over par 72 to sit tied for the 37th position overall
- Jones Free trails closely behind, sitting one stroke back in a tie for 46th with an opening round 3-over 73
- Jack Mitchell (74) and Nick Gross (75) round out Alabama's starting five in the event
Team Highlights
- No. 2 Arizona State (-7) leads the field, with No. 16 North Carolina, No. 9 Florida and No. 17 Georgia Tech all sitting six strokes behind and tied for second
- Florida State and Stanford sit tied for the fifth position at even par through the first round
- The 15-team field features 12 squads ranked or receiving votes in the GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll released Sept. 20
- Programs in the 2024 tournament field have combined to account for 18 of 30 spots in the 15 NCAA Championship match play finals since the current format began in 2009
