Jonathan Griz led the Crimson Tide, as he tied for 18th in the rain-shortened event
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The No. 7 Alabama men's golf team finished in 12th place at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational. Due to inclement weather forecasted for Sunday, the final round was moved to Saturday and followed the second round.
The Crimson Tide finished the event with a tournament low of 279 in the final round, closing play with a 54-hole team total of 16-over 856 (291-286-279).
Jonathan Griz led UA through the final day, carding back-to-back rounds of 69 and finishing tied for the 18th position overall with an even par 210 (72-69-69).
With play suspended at 6:56 p.m. CT Saturday night, three teams concluded the final round of play Sunday morning with Georgia Tech (-12) winning the team title.
Individual Highlights
- Jonathan Griz earned his 11th career top-20 finish and his second of the season
- Dominic Clemons closed the event carding a 5-over 215 (72-70-73) and tied for 37th overall
- Jones Free had the round of the day, carding a 3-under 67 in a final, bogey free round, which included four bridies
- Free leaped 23 spots up the leaderboard to join Clemons tied for 37th, carding a matching score of 5-over 215 (73-75-67)
- Jack Mitchell finished with a 219 (74-72-73) to finish tied for 55th
- Nick Gross did not register a score in the second round, collected a 75 in round one and 70 in round three to give him a 145 across the two rounds played
The Field
- No. 17 Georgia Tech (-12) claimed the team title, bettering second-ranked Arizona State (-11)
- Oklahoma State and North Carolina sit tied for third at 1-under with Texas (+3) rounding out the top-5 teams
- The OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational featured a star-studded field, including 12 of the 15 squads ranked or receiving votes in the GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll released Sept. 20
