Cross Country Rolls at Southern Showcase as Tide Sweeps Team, Individual Titles

The Crimson Tide men and women swept the team titles, as Victor Kiprop and Doris Lemngole claimed the men’s and women’s individual crowns, respectively

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In its opening race of the season, Alabama cross country swept both the team and individual titles on Friday morning at the Southern Showcase. Victor Kiprop claimed the men's crown via a 23:25.87 run across the 8K course, while Doris Lemngole (16:03.85) secured the women's 5K title.

Joining Kiprop in the top four of the men's race, were Dennis Kipruto (23:35.64 | third), Hillary Cheruiyot (23:37.60 | fourth), while newcomer Pheline Mining (16:35.49 | second) finished right behind Lemngole in the women's race.

The No. 9-ranked Crimson Tide men needed only 41 points to take the team title, as all five scoring runners for Alabama finished in the top 25. Hudson Hurst (24:14.11 | 11^th) and Charlie Rogers (24:33.99 | 22^nd) rounded out UA's scoring five in the men's 8k.

The No. 12 UA women concluded the season-opening meet with a 52-point, sweep-securing performance as newcomer Addison Dorenkamp (16:59.47 | ninth), Lilly Walters (17:12.69 | 17^th) and Jami Reed (17:18.90 | 26^th) rounded out the Tide's scoring five to help secure the team crown.

"You can't ask for a better morning of racing to open our season. To not only come away with both the men's and women's team titles, but both individual titles from Victor and Doris, while also claiming top-four individual finishes, across both races, speaks directly to the preparation by both our programs. I thought both groups ran well and dealt with the rain well prior to racing. We will use this momentum and build upon this success throughout the rest of our season."
