
Alabama Opens 2024-25 Season at Home with SEC Challenge Tournament

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The Alabama men's tennis team opens the 2024-25 season at home, hosting the SEC Challenge at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. The three-day tournament begins Friday and will feature players from eight Southeastern Conference programs.
Tournament Format
- Players from each school will compete in pairs throughout the tournament
- Each pair will play a total of three matches each round, one doubles and two singles
- The duo that wins two of the three matches will advance in the compass draw format
- The competition will begin Friday with matches concluding Sunday
- Friday | 10 a.m.
- Saturday | 10 a.m.
- Sunday | 10 a.m.

The Competition
- Alabama is one of eight SEC schools competing in the event and will serve as host for the tournament
- The Tide will face student-athletes from Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt
- UA's Roan Jones and Andrii Zimnokh will compete as a duo while newcomers Carlos Gimenez Perez and Damien Nazar both make their Crimson Tide debut as a pairing
About the Tide
- Alabama finished last season ranked No. 21 in the final ITA rankings
- The Tide posted an 18-13 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for just the 10th time in program history
- Returners Andrii Zimnokh and Zach Foster highlight the roster, entering the season ranked No. 18 nationally in doubles
- Roan Jones and Matias Ponce De Leon also hold a national ranking with the No. 83 doubles spot
- The 2024 ITA Southern Rookie of the Year recipient, Zimnokh earned a national ranking of No. 62 in the ITA Preseason Singles Poll
- Also ranked in singles, Ponce De Leon opens the season at No. 118
- UA welcomes two transfers in junior Carolos Gimenez Perez and senior Damien Nezar
