
Clemons, Alabama Hold 36-Hole Lead at the Folds of Honor Collegiate

Dominic Clemons finished the day at 5-under par to seize the clubhouse lead, Griz closed play at 3-under to move into a second-place tie
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Behind the play of Alabama golfers Dominic Clemons (-5) and Jonathan Griz (-3), who combined to shot 8-under in Tuesday's second round of the Folds of Honor Collegiate, the No. 16-ranked Crimson Tide (-5) ended the day with a one-stroke lead over No. 9 Illinois (-4) after 36 holes played.
Clemons finished the day with a 66 and is the clubhouse leader with a two-day total of 7-under par 135 (69-66). He owns a two-shot advantage over Michigan State's Ashton McCulloch (-5). Meanwhile, Jonathan Griz's round of 68 moves him into third overall at 5-under par 137 (69-68).
The Tide will tee of the final round of play on Wednesday at the prestigious Folds of Honor Collegiate, which is being held on the on the par 72, 7,213-yard American Dunes Golf Club course.
Round Two Highlights
- Dominic Clemons has opened his Alabama career with back-to-back rounds in the 60s to climb into the overall lead
- Clemons is looking for his second career medalist honor (won the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate last season at Stetson)
- Like Clemons, Griz has opened his season with back-to-back rounds in the 60s, giving him 15 in his career
- Jack Mitchell, who held the first-round lead, is in 10th overall with a 1-under par 141 (64-77)
- Nick Gross (76-77) and Jones Free (73-80) are tied for 47th overall at 11-over par 153
- Jones Free fought through a triple bogey on the ninth hole of the day but was 1-under across thre rest of his round to finish in a tie for 18th position at 2-over par 73
The Field
- Illinois (-4) shot the round of the day with a 6-under 278 and is now just one shot back of the lead, erasing Alabama's 11-shot first round advantage
- Notre Dame (+2), tournament host Michigan State (+3) and No. 8 Texas (+5) round out the top five teams
- The Folds of Honor Collegiate was created to benefit the non-profit organization, Folds of Honor, that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of military members who have fallen or been disabled while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
- In addition to the Crimson Tide, other ranked teams in the 15-team field include No. 3 Florida State, No. 8 Texas, No. 9 Illinois, No. 17 Arkansas and No. 22 Ohio State
