A three-run seventh for the Tigers proved the difference in game two of the series
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball suffered a 6-3 loss to LSU on Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Following game two of the weekend, the 25th-ranked Crimson Tide is now 31-19 overall and 11-15 in Southeastern Conference play.
A three-run seventh for LSU proved the difference on Saturday. Alabama struck early with one in the first, but LSU answered with a two-run second. The Tide evened things up with a single tally in the fourth, but the Tigers countered once again, crossing one in the sixth before widening the gap with three more in the seventh. Alabama got one run back in the seventh but would get no closer for the 6-3 final.
Zane Adams (4-4) suffered the hard-luck loss, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on six hits and four walks with a career-high six strikeouts. The win went to Luke Holman (7-3), who allowed two runs on four hits with four walks compared to two strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"This was just another really good baseball game, to be honest with you. We did some really good things on the mound. Zane Adams was outstanding, pitching into the sixth inning to give us a chance. Aidan Moza came in and did what we needed him to do, and Zane Probst did a really good job of coming in and giving us a chance there at the end."
How It Happened
- B1 | The Tide loaded the bases with one down for Kade Snell, who hit a high chopper to second for a 4-3 groundout that allowed Ian Petrutz to cross from third. (1-0, Alabama)
- T2 | With two on and two down, a double off the wall in left-center cleared the bases for the Tigers. (2-1, LSU)
- B4 | Snell led off with a single and was followed by a TJ McCants single to put two aboard. Mac Guscette moved the pair into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt before William Hamiter evened things up with a fielder's choice groundout. (2-2)
- T6 | With the bases loaded and one down, a groundout moved the go-ahead run home from third. (3-2, LSU)
- T7 | The Tigers used three hits to plate three runs, highlighted by an RBI-triple. (6-2, LSU)
- B7 | With runners on the corners and two down, Guscette lined an RBI-single to right. (6-3, LSU)
