Beaver earns SEC Pitcher of the Week accolades, Briski SEC Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following an Alabama sweep over Ole Miss last weekend, the Crimson Tide claimed a pair of weekly softball accolades from the Southeastern Conference Tuesday as Kayla Beaver was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week and Jocelyn Briski was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Beaver went 2-0 in two starts vs. the Rebels, throwing a combined 11.2 shutout innings with 16 strikeouts over the two games. She pitched a complete-game shutout in Friday's series opener, only allowing one baserunner to advance past second base, and threw 4.2 more shutout innings in Sunday's series finale to ultimately earn the win and complete the series sweep.
Briski made her first career SEC start in game two of the weekend series on Saturday, throwing a complete game with just one unearned run allowed. The complete game was just her second of the season, first doing so in her Alabama debut against Georgia Tech on Feb. 9 in Atlanta. Saturday's win secured the Tide's first SEC series victory of the season.
The awards are the first for both Beaver and Briski in their Tide careers and the fourth this season for Alabama, with Jenna Johnson winning Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 26 and Lauren Johnson winning Co-Freshman of the Week honors on Feb. 12. Over its program's history, Alabama has taken home 55 SEC Pitcher of the Week awards and 26 SEC Freshman of the Week awards.
