Tide Back in Tuscaloosa as Baseball Welcomes South Alabama to Town

The Crimson Tide and Jaguars will meet for the 112th time in series history on Tuesday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball will begin a nine-game homestand on Tuesday when the 16th-ranked Crimson Tide welcomes South Alabama to Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The in-state showdown is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch with the game airing on SEC Network+.
Tuesday's matchup with the Jaguars will continue the Tide's '$2 Tuesday' at The Joe. The deal is one of Alabama's season-long promotions, featuring $2 reserved tickets for all fans in attendance.

Leading Off
- Alabama and South Alabama will square off for the 112th time in series history when the teams meet for a midweek pairing on Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Tide owns a 63-48 overall record against the Jaguars, including a 41-18 mark in Tuscaloosa. Alabama enters Tuesday evening riding a seven-game winning streak in the series dating back to the 2019 season.
- The most recent game between the two in-state foes came on March 14 of last season in Mobile. The Crimson Tide downed USA, 4-0 at Stanky Field, in its final midweek prior to the start of Southeastern Conference play.
- The last time the Tide and Jags met in Tuscaloosa was on March 29, 2022, with Alabama claiming a 5-4 victory. A wild pitch in the ninth scored Jim Jarvis to give UA the win in walkoff fashion.
About Alabama
- Alabama finished 1-3 over the last week. The Crimson Tide first downed Samford on Wednesday in Birmingham before falling in three straight games at 12th-ranked Kentucky.
- The Tide held off a late rally by Samford to claim an 11-10 win last Wednesday at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
- Alabama gained a 3-0 advantage early with a two-run first and one run in the second. The Tide then added two more in the top of the fifth before Samford was able to get on the board with three in the home half of that inning.
- UA added four in the sixth, once again answered by the Bulldogs, this time with a two-run sixth. The Tide plated single tallies in the eighth and ninth to head to the home half of the final frame with an 11-5 lead.
- In the ninth inning, Samford was able to cut the lead in half with a three-run homer. The Bulldog ninth continued on when an error followed by a two-out double scored one more. Samford was able to add one more with an RBI-single and had the tying and go-ahead runners aboard before Tyler Fay recorded the final out with a strikeout.
- Fay picked up his first career save with 0.1 an inning while Kade Snell got the win after tossing 4.0 scoreless frames with four hits, one walk and three strikeouts in his start.
- Alabama's offense finished with 11 runs on 13 hits with all nine starters recording at least one knock in Birmingham. The bats were led by Gage Miller, who went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, three RBI, three runs and two walks. Ian Petrutz and TJ McCants also added home runs, with Petrutz finishing 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, a pair of runs and one walk while McCants contributed an RBI and one run scored.
- Alabama suffered a 6-2 loss to 12th-ranked Kentucky on Friday evening at Kentucky Proud Park.
- A low-scoring affair early, Kentucky struck first with a single tally in the second. Alabama then got on the board to start the fifth with a run of its own, sending the game to the home half knotted up at one apiece.
- The tie would not last long as the Wildcats posted three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to put the game out of reach. The Tide continued to battle, reaching the leadoff man in each of the final five innings but crossed just one run in the seventh for the 6-2 final.
- Alabama was blanked by the Wildcats, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon.
- Kentucky built a 3-0 lead after three frames, plating one in the first and two in the second. The Wildcats added four in the sixth to make it a 7-0 affair, the eventual final. The shutout loss was the Tide's first this season.
- Alabama suffered a 10-1 loss to Kentucky on Sunday.
- The Wildcats got on the board with three in the second with Alabama getting a run of its own in the top of the third. UK then added two in the home half of the third before putting the game out of reach with a five-run seventh.
About South Alabama
- Mark Calvi is in his 13th year as head coach of the Jaguars and entered the new season with a 367-287 career record, all with USA. A 1991 graduate of Nova Southeastern, Calvi is joined on staff by assistants Nick Magnifico, Derrick Mount, Brad Phillips and Corley Reynolds.
- The Jags posted a 23-31 record during the 2023 season, including an 11-19 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.
- South Alabama was selected to finish eighth overall in the Sun Belt in the league's preseason poll, as voted on by the conference's head coaches.

Alabama will welcome top-ranked Arkansas to The Joe this weekend for a three-game set. The Crimson Tide and Razorbacks are scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch in the opener followed by a 5 p.m. start on Saturday and a 1 p.m. series finale.
