The Crimson Tide returns to action on Tuesday at home
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Alabama baseball suffered a 10-1 loss to 12th-ranked Kentucky on Sunday at Kentucky Proud Park. The loss moved the 11th-ranked Crimson Tide to 22-10 on the season and 4-8 in Southeastern Conference play.
Kentucky got on the board with three in the second with Alabama getting a run of its own in the top of the third. The Wildcats then added two in the home half of the third before putting the game out of reach with a five-run seventh.
Mason Moore (7-0) got the win after allowing one run on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The loss went to Zane Adams (2-2) who gave up three runs on five hits and a walk with one strikeout in his 2.0 innings of work.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"At the end of the day, (Kentucky) was better for three games in all three phases. They pitched the ball better, they put together better at-bats and they played better defense. It was a tough weekend, and we have to decide how we'll deal with this adversity. I trust this group, and I believe in this group. I think we'll be able to use this to move forward. The process will begin on Tuesday when we get a chance to come back out and face a good South Alabama team."
How It Happened
- B2 | Four hits and a walk led to three runs for the Wildcats. (3-0, Kentucky)
- T3 | Mac Guscette led off with a double to left. A sacrifice bunt then moved him to third before a 4-3 groundout from Gage Miller crossed a run. (3-1, Kentucky)
- B3 | A two-run home run from Ryan Nicholson widened the gap. (5-1, Kentucky)
- B7 | The Wildcats recorded seven hits leading to five runs, highlighted by a three-run homer from Nicholson. (10-1, Kentucky)
Postgame Notes
- Gage Miller has reached base safely in all 31 games that he has played in. That is the longest reached base streak by a Crimson Tide hitter since Taylor Dugas' 34-game streak to start the 2012 season. The 34-game stretch was part of Dugas' 46-game streak overall that included the final 12 games of the 2011 campaign.
Alabama returns home to begin a nine-game homestand at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide will first host South Alabama on Tuesday, April 9, with the in-state matchup scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch. Fans can catch the midweek contest on SEC Network+.
