
Alabama Earns NCAA Tournament Berth, Set to Play SMU

The Crimson Tide will make its 18th appearance in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament when it faces the Mustangs on Saturday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Alabama will make its 18th team appearance at the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament. The Crimson Tide will travel to Stillwater, Okla., to face the SMU Mustangs in the opening round of competition on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
Head Coach Jonatan Berhane's Comments
"We are excited to get the opportunity to compete in the postseason. The student-athletes are very deserving and have earned this opportunity. We look forward to our match against SMU. I want to take the time to thank our whole athletic department, fans and the Crimson Racket Club – we would not have been able to give the players this amazing experience without the support. NCAA Tournament Notes
- Alabama captured its 18th NCAA Tournament berth, earning a spot in four of the last five national competitions (there was no NCAA Tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic)
- The bid marks the first appearance under head coach Jonatan Berhane
- The Crimson Tide's deepest run came in 2014 with the team advancing to the quarterfinals
- The program is 12-17 all-time in the NCAA Tournament
- UA enters the tournament with a 15-10 overall record and ranks 32nd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings
- The season was highlighted by wins over then-No. 22 Texas Tech and then-No. 24 Illinois
- Additionally, Alabama won the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic for the first time since 2015
- The Tide went on an 11-match winning streak from Jan. 28 to March 10, which included a 4-0 start to Southeastern Conference play
- UA opened SEC play with a dominate 4-3 victory over then-No. 27 Vanderbilt
