
Marcum Earns CSC Academic All-America Honors

Jake Marcum secured the national academic and athletic accolade for the first time in his career after a strong postseason performance
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Graduate student Jake Marcum was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America team, the organization announced Wednesday.
Marcum was named to the Academic All-America Third Team after boasting a 3.62 grade point average in biology and recording a stellar postseason performance. The graduate student secured his third career berth to the NCAA Championships, qualifying in both the 100 and 200 backstroke, in addition to capturing a career-best 200 backstroke swim at the Southeastern Conference Championships.

- Captured a career-best time of 1:40.10 in the 200 backstroke at the Southeastern Conference Championships
- The swim moved him to fourth all-time on Alabama's top-10 list
- His 200 backstroke performance took first place in the B finals at the conference meet and earned a ninth-place finish overall
- Advanced to the NCAA Championships in both the 100 and 200 backstroke
- Posted a time of 1:40.74 in the 200 backstroke at the NCAA Championships to finish 22nd overall at the national meet
- Won the 200 backstroke against Kentucky during the regular season
- Finished fourth in the 200 backstroke at the Tennessee Invite and eighth at the meet in the 100 backstroke
- Holds a 3.62 GPA in biology
- Overall, 26 members of the men's and women's swimming and diving squads have earned academic All-America honors 40 times
