Alabama Falls 4-3 to South Carolina in Second Round at the SEC Tournament

The Crimson Tide will turn its sights on the NCAA Tournament
ATHENS, Ga. – The 11th-seeded Alabama women's tennis team (15-10) fell, 4-3, to sixth-seeded South Carolina (17-6) in the Second Round of the 2024 Southeastern Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Thursday. Although UA claimed the doubles point, the Crimson Tide and Gamecocks battled during singles play as the match tied on two separate occasions before falling in favor of the Gamecocks.
Alabama started off strong winning the doubles point, after earning victories on courts one and two. The No. 21 doubles duo Anne Marie Hiser and Loudmilla Bencheikh defeated the No. 22 pairing of Sarah Hamner and Ayana Akli, 6-3, while Petra Sedlackova and Anna Parkhomenko downed Shahar Biran and Elise Mills, 6-4.
South Carolina would clinch the match with four singles wins, however, the Tide still earned a pair of victories from Ola Pitak and Parkhomenko. After back-to-back singles wins from South Carolina, Parkhomenko brought the match to a 2-2 tie after defeating Olympe Lancelot in a straight-set victory (6-3, 6-3) on court five. Pitak's two-set victory over Shahar Biran (7-6 (7-2), 7-5) was the final point for UA as the Gamecocks would win the final match on court two.
