Men’s Golf Team Returns to Action this Weekend at The Hayt

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's golf team is back in action this weekend as it travels to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., to compete at The Hayt, hosted by North Florida. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will take place Saturday-Monday at the par 72, 6,966-yard Sawgrass Country Club.

The Lineup

The Crimson Tide's starting lineup in the event will feature Thomas Ponder, Canon Claycomb, Jones Free, Jonathan Griz and JP Cave
Additionally, Austin Coggin will compete in the event as an individual
Ponder headlines the Tide's starting five coming off his recent top-5 finish (4^th) at the Watersound Invitational where he carded a season-best, low-54 total of 8-under par 208
Ponder leads UA in overall stroke average (71.21), average vs. par (-0.29) and rounds of par or better (9)
Claycomb follows closely behind, ranking second on the team in both stroke average (72.00) and average vs. par (+0.50)
Free makes his second start in the Tide's lineup this season after competing as an individual in the past three events, and enters averaging
Across three individual appearances, Free carded a combined score of 1-under par which included a pair of top-20 finishes
Griz (72.58) and Cave (72.92) each maintain under 73.00 per-round averages entering tjos weekend's tournament field, rounding out the starting lineup for the event
Coggin will compete in his fifth tournament for the Tide on the year, and will make his second appearance as an individual

Tournament Preview

Alabama will tee off the opening round at 7:50 a.m. ET (6:50 a.m. CT) off Hole No. 10 and is paired alongside Charlotte and Louisville
The 14-team field features nine teams ranked among the top-60 in the most recent Spikemark Golf Rankings
Joining the 21^st-ranked Crimson Tide will be No. 1 North Carolina, No. 13 Virginia, No. 21 Alabama, No. 23 Duke, No. 25 North Florida, No. 26 Ohio State, No. 40 USF, No. 51 Louisville and No. 60 Charlotte
Other participating teams include UCF, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville, Liberty and UTSA
