Mark Sears recognized as one of the best point guards in college basketball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's basketball guard Mark Sears was named a finalists for the 2024 Bob Cousy, the Naismith Awards announced Monday. Sears is one of five players and the only SEC player to be named to the list.
Joining Sears on the list is Houston's Jamal Shead, Marquette's Tyler Kolek, Purdue's Braden Smith and UConn's Tristen Newton.
Mark Sears Notes
- Ranks No. 1 in the SEC in scoring (21.1 ppg), No. 5 in field goal percentage (50.9) and No. 8 in assists (4.0 apg)
- Sears is one of two Division I players and the only Power 5 player that has 630 points, 120 rebounds, 120 assists and 70 three-pointers this season
- Sears has 628 points this season, moving him to No. 6 on Alabama's single-season scoring list
- Has scored 20-or-more points in 20 games this season, the most by an Alabama player since Reggie King's school record 23 games in 1978-79
- According to KenPom, Mark Sears ranks No. 10 in the National Player of the Year standings
- Two-time SEC Player of the Week (Jan. 15 and Jan. 29)
