The Crimson Tide brought the potential go-ahead run to the plate in the seventh inning

ATHENS, Ga. – Trailing by two in the seventh inning, Alabama brought the potential go-ahead run to the plate but Georgia ultimately held on to secure the 4-2 win and take Friday's series opener.

Alabama (21-4, 1-3 SEC) got on the board first with a second-inning solo home run from Kenleigh Cahalan and led until Georgia (22-3, 1-0 SEC) hit a three-run home run with two outs in the fourth to move in front, 3-1. Kali Heivilin made it a one-run game in the next half-inning, banging a solo homer off the foul pole in right but the Bulldogs stretched back ahead by two in the home half of the fifth with an RBI single. Trailing by two in the top of the seventh, Jenna Johnson poked a one-out single into right field and Heivilin followed with a hit-by-pitch, putting the potential tying run on base. A pair of strikeouts got Georgia out of the jam and gave the home team the win.

Alabama is now 51-22 all-time vs. Georgia, including a 20-12 mark in Athens
The game is the first time this season the Tide has lost when scoring first, now 19-1 in those contests
Kali Heivilin and Kenleigh Cahalan each had solo home runs, their fourth and second homers of the season, respectively
Kayla Beaver took the loss in the circle, just her second of the season, and the fourth-inning home run was just her second of the season as well
