
Alabama Sends Eight to NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

The Crimson Tide will send eight student-athletes to the national meet to compete in a total of 14 races
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Eight Alabama student-athletes will represent the Crimson Tide at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships held March 27-30 at the IU Natatorium, on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), in Indianapolis. Alabama will have 14 entries at the national meet including three relay events.
Kaique Alves, Charlie Hawke and Tommy Hagar were selected to swim in a trio of individual events, while Jake Marcum earned a spot in both backstroke competitions.
Seeded in the top 10 in two of his three individual races, Hawke paces the Tide with the NCAA's second-fastest 200 freestyle (1:30.75) and ninth-fastest 500 freestyle entry time (4:11.62). He was also selected to compete among the nation's elite swimmers in the 100 freestyle (42.31).
Alves joins Hawke as one of the top 200 freestylers in the county, entering as the 11th seed with a time of 1:31.97. He was also selected for the 100 freestyle (42.28) and 200 individual medley (1:43.89).
In his first season of collegiate swimming, freshman Hagar secured a selection in three individual events. Highlighted by a time of 1:40.20 in the 200 backstroke, he recorded a 46.46 in the 100 backstroke and a 1:45.34 in the 200 individual medley to claim his spot at the national meet.
A dominant backstroke specialist, Marcum was selected to compete in both the 100 and 200 event races. He is seeded with a time of 47.24 in the 100 backstroke and a time of 1:40.10 in the 200 backstroke.
In addition to UA's individual selections, Alabama will send Leonardo Alcantara, Bernardo Bondra de Almeida, Tim Korstanje and Zarek Wilson to Indianapolis to compete in three relay events. UA qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 medley relay and both the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
