Courtney Russo and Julia Herring competed on the 1m board on the opening day of competition

ATHENS, Ga. – Alabama opened the Zone B Diving Championships on Sunday with the women's 1m board, as Courtney Russo and Julia Herring represented the Crimson Tide in the opening event.

Meet Notes

Courtney Russo led the Crimson Tide, scoring a 240.05 to finish 27^th on the 1-meter springboard
She closed the competition strong with the round's seventh-best dive, tallying 48.75 points with her back 1-1/2 somersault 1-1/2 twist free in the sixth round
She would open the day with her best dive, an inward 1-1/2 somersault pike for 49.20 points
Julia Herring captured a 46.80 score off a forward 2-1/2 somersault pike to start the event
She posted mirroring 43.20 scores in rounds three and four thanks to a reverse 1-1/2 somersault pike and an inward 1-1/2 somersault pike, respectively
She would conclude the event with a score of 225.60 for 38^th place

The Tide returns to the Gabrielsen Natatorium Monday for day two of the competition
The men's 1m board will open the day at 10 a.m. CT
The women's 3m board is set to begin at 2:15 p.m.
