
Mark Sears Named to the Wooden Award Ballot

The senior from Muscle Shoals, Ala. is one of 15 Division I players considered for the nation’s top award
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's basketball guard Mark Sears has been named to the 2024 John R. Wooden Award national ballot, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Saturday. Sears is one of 15 players in America considered for the Wooden Award All-American Team and the Wooden Award Trophy, which annually recognizes the most outstanding college basketball player in America. Â
This is the second straight year an Alabama player has been named as a finalist Wooden Award, as Brandon Miller was named to the list last season.Â
Mark Sears Notes
- Named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which annually recognizes the top point guard in Division I
- Sears is one of four SEC players to be named to the ballot, the most by any conference in the country
- Ranks No. 2 in the SEC in scoring (21.1 ppg), No. 6 in field goal percentage (50.6) and No. 6 in assists (4.1 apg)
- Sears has scored 20-or-more points in 21 games this season, the most by an Alabama player since Reggie King's school record 23 games in 1978-79
- Sears is one of two players in Division I and the only Power 5 player this year that has 650 points, 125 assists, 120 rebounds and 75 three-pointers
