No. 13 Women’s Tennis Defeats Vanderbilt, 4-3, in SEC Opener

The Crimson Tide moves to 10-1 during the 2023-24 season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 13 Alabama women's tennis team defeated No. 27 Vanderbilt, 4-3, to open Southeastern Conference play on Friday in the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Facility.
Alabama opened doubles play with a loss on court two, before 37th-nationally ranked doubles duo Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser beat 16th-nationally ranked doubles partners Celia-Belle Mohr and Anessa Lee, 6-3. Ola Pitak and Klara Milicevic defeated Holly Staff and Sonya Macevei, 7-5, on court three to claim the doubles point for the Crimson Tide.
Vanderbilt picked up its first point of the match after No. 17 Celia-Belle Mohr defeated No. 31 Loudmilla Bencheikh, 6-1, 6-2, on court one. The next two games were split between the two teams, including an Alabama win on court two and a Vanderbilt win on court six, respectively, to bring the score to a 2-2 tie.
The Commodores' Valeria Ray beat Klara Milicevic in three sets, 6-0, 6-7(4), 6-3, to give Vanderbilt the lead as courts two and five, respectively, finished play. Both remaining games came down to the final third set, as Petra Sedlackova defeated Anessa Lee, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, on court two, to tie the score again, this time at 3-3.
Anna Parkhomenko battled against Holly Staff until the very last point, after winning set one 6-3, but falling 3-6 in the second set. Parkhomenko secured the conference-opening win for Alabama with a 6-4 win in the deciding third set.

"Today was all about teamwork. We gave it our all in every match and managed to pull off a great win against a tough opponent. Now, we're looking ahead to our next game against Kentucky on Sunday."
