
Hawke’s School Record Highlights Alabama on Third Night of SEC Swimming and Diving Championships

Charlie Hawke’s school record performance in the 500 freestyle was the junior’s third UA record at the meet
AUBURN, Ala. – For the second consecutive night, the Alabama swimming and diving team was highlighted by a school record performance from Charlie Hawke at the Southeastern Conference Championships. Hawke captured an impressive 4:11.62 in the 500 freestyle to earn a bronze medal and shatter his previous record time by over a second (4:12.91).
In addition to Hawke, the women's 200 freestyle relay team posted the fourth-fastest time of the night, clocking a season-best 1:27.85. Kailyn Winter also reached the A finals, recording a 22.29 50 freestyle swim for a seventh-place finish in the event.
After the third day of competition, the women's team is ranked sixth with 250.5 points, while the men's team is in eighth place with 187 points.
The Meet
- Hawke's 500 freestyle school record was one of three this week for the UA junior as he also set a school record on Tuesday with his leadoff 200-yard freestyle swim (1:30.75) as part of a school record 800 freestyle relay performance (6:11.27)
- Winter reached the A final of the 50 freestyle off a career-best 22.14, which moved her to sixth all-time in program history
- Mackenzie Brandt's career-best time of 4:41.31 in the 500 freestyle placed second in the B final and 10th overall in the meet
- Her time ranked fourth all-time in program history, a spot she held with her prior career-best time of 4:42.55
- Ethan Otten bettered his career-best performance in the 50 freestyle in both the preliminary race (19.54) and during the finals (19.43)
- His time in the finals moved him to ninth on UA's all-time top 10 list and placed him 14th overall in the meet
- Diana Petkova clocked a 1:59.32 to earn a 15th-place finish in the 200 individual medley while Avery Wiseman swam a 2:00.75 to place 24th in the event
- Tommy Hagar turned in a 1:45.34 in the C final of the men's 200 individual medley, securing Alabama's 10th fastest all-time swim
- Hagar finished 19th overall in the event, while Kaique Alves' time of 1:49.80 earned him a 24th-place finish
- Cadence Vincent joined Winter in the 50 freestyle finals, earning a third-place finish in the B final and an 11th overall finish with her time of 22.44
- Jada Surrell-Norwood swam a 22.65 to finish 23rd in the 50 freestyle
- Colten Cryer (315.35) and Paul Mathews (313.60) paced the UA diving team as the Cryer finished 17th and Mathews placed 18th on the 3m board
- Liberty Williams swam a 4:48.53 for a 24th-place finish in the 500 freestyle
- She posted a season-best swim of 4:46.35 in the prelims, capturing the program's seventh all-time fastest swim in the event
- Leonardo Alcantara swam a time of 4:20.03 to finish 23rd in the 500 freestyle after posting the program's ninth-fastest time during the morning session with a 4:18.72
- Tim Korstanje posted a time of 19.60 in the 50 freestyle finals to place 19th in the event

- Prelims for the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT while the women's 1m board prelims will begin at noon on Thursday
- The night session will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
