
Alabama Sets Two School Records on Second Day of SEC Championships

The Crimson Tide topped the UA record in the 800 freestyle relay as Charlie Hawke surpassed the school standard in the 200 freestyle with his leadoff swim
AUBURN, Ala. – Alabama concluded the second day of the Southeastern Conference Championships with a pair of school records, setting a new standard in the 800-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard freestyle.
The Alabama contingent of Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves, Tommy Hagar and Leonardo Alcantara posted a time of 6:11.27 to top the prior 6:12.46 record set at last year's SEC Championships. The race was aided by a school record 200-yard freestyle time as Hawke swam a 1:30.75 as the leadoff swimmer to pace the team to a fourth-place finish in the event. Hawke's 200 freestyle time topped his 1:31.20 mark that was also set at the 2023 conference championships.
After the second night of competition the men's team is in sixth place with 116 points as the women sit in seventh with 127.
The Meet
- Hawke's school record 200 freestyle time of 1:30.75 paced the men's 800 freestyle relay team to a UA record time of 6:11.27, capturing a fourth-place finish in the event
- The 200 medley relay team of Gaby Van Brunt, Avery Wiseman, Kailyn Winter and Cadence Vincent swam a season-best 1:35.32 to place fourth in the event
- The men's 200 medley relay team also captured a season-best swim as Tommy Hagar, Kaique Alves, Tim Korstanje and Charlie Hawke went 1:24.25 for seventh place
- Ryleigh Rodgers and Grace Hurley paced the UA diving unit as Rodgers advanced to the A final with a 295.10 prelim score and Hurley to the B final, with a 269.20 score, on the 3m board
- Rodgers dove a 292.35 in the finals to finish eighth overall while Hurley placed 16th with a 250.80
- Additionally, Julia Herring (260.50) and Courtney Russo (248.75) scored points for the Tide with an 18th and 22nd-place finish, respectively
- The women's 800 freestyle relay team of Mackenzie Brandt, Ella Jones, Lockett Bowley and Liberty Williams swam a time of 7:14.78 to finish 11th in the event

- Prelims for the 50 and 500 free and the 200 individual medley will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT while the men's 3m board prelims will begin at noon on Wednesday
- The night session will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
