
Alabama Track and Field Grabs Five First-Place Finishes During First Day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic

The Crimson Tide will compete in five different events on Saturday to close the weekend meet
Albuquerque, N.M. – On the opening day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Alabama track and field swept the weight throw event behind first-place finishes from Chandler Hayden and Ruben Banks. This is the third consecutive week Hayden and Banks have swept the weight throw event.
Matthew Weaver took home Alabama's first event win of the day after clocking a new PR in the men's unseeded 200-meter dash with a time of 20.83, giving him the seventh-best time in program history. Tarsis Orogot would follow Weaver by placing first in the 200-meter invitational after clocking 20.34.
Over in the field, Hayden would give the Crimson Tide its second first-place finish of the day after throwing a 22.58-meter (74-1) mark, a new personal-best, while also improving her already second-best mark in program history. Banks followed suit, giving UA another first-place finish in the men's weight throw with a throw of 22.74-meter (74-7).
CRIMSON TIDE TOP FINISHES
- On the track, Matthew Weaver (20.83) gave the Tide its first win of the day in the men's unseeded 200-meter dash with Jonathan Martin (ninth | 21.29) adding a top-10 finish
- Weaver's time of 20.83 is good enough for seventh in program history and is a new PR
- Martin also clocked a new PR
- Clayton Elder added another top-10 finish to the Tide's final tally with a sixth-place finish (47.77) in the men's unseeded 400-meter dash
- Elder's time of 47.77 is a new PR
- Margaret Conteh finished fifth in the women's unseeded 400-meter dash with a time of 55.40
- Tarsis Orogot (first | 20.34) and Khaleb McRae (fourth | 20.76) would give Alabama a pair of top-five finishes in the men's 200-meter dash
- McRae clocks a new PR with his time and is good for seventh in program history
- Spencer Gudgel (1:56.17) placed tenth in the men's 800-meter race
- Samuel Ogazi (second | 46.30) and Chris Robinson (fourth | 46.37) would conclude the night for the Tide with a pair of top-five finishes in the men's invitational 400-meter dash
- Ogazi clocked a new PR
- In the field, John Landers finished seventh in the men's pole vault with a 4.80-meter (15-9) mark
- Khristian Watson finished fifth in the men's high jump with a 2.07-meter (6-9.50) mark
- Chandler Hayden (22.58 | 74-1) would give the Tide its second first-place finish of the day in the women's weight throw
- Her mark is a new PR and improves her already second-best mark in program history
- Miracle Ailes would add a first-place finish in the women's high jump with a 1.81-meter (5-11.25) mark
- Caelyn Harris would add a top-10 finish to UA's total with a tenth-place finish (6.10m | 20-0.25) in the women's long jump
- Ruben Banks finished first in the men's weight throw with a 22.74-meter (74-7) mark
- Victoria Faber added a top-five finish to the Tide with a fourth-place finish (4.04m | 13-3) in the women's pole vault
