
Jones, Hawke Lead Alabama on Day Two of Georgia Invitational

Emily Jones helped UA secure two first-place finishes, 200 medley relay and 100 backstroke, in the women’s competition as Charlie Hawke paced the men’s team with the top time in the 200 freestyle
ATHENS, Ga. – Emily Jones and Charlie Hawke paced a slew of top performances by the Alabama swimming and diving team on the second day of competition at the Georgia Invitational.
The day was highlighted by two A qualifying marks from the 200 medley relay team (1:35.12) of Jones, Avery Wiseman, Jada Scott and Cadence Vincent and from Hawke in the 200 freestyle (1:31.05). Both performances secured the top finish in their event as Jones' 50.72 in the 100 backstroke gave UA a trio of first-place finishes.
After two days of competition, the Crimson Tide sits in third place in both the men's and women's standings with 438.5 points and 476.5 points, respectively.
Highlights
- The women's 200 medley relay team captured a time of 1:35.12, moving the quartet of Jones, Wiseman, Scott and Vincent to fifth nationally against entries heading into the week, while also surpassing the A qualifying standard
- Hawke captured the top time in the 200 freestyle with an A qualifying time of 1:31.05 as his performance launched him past the NCAA's top swims heading into this week
- With a career-best swim, Jones won the 100 backstroke by nearly a second as her 50.72 moved her to second all-time in program history
- Earlier in the meet, Jones posted a 51.97 in the 100 butterfly to move her to fourth all-time in Alabama history as Victoria Raymond's prelim swim of 52.04 ranked her fifth all-time in the event
- Jones captured the silver medal in the 100 butterfly as Raymond (52.21) would earn bronze, giving the Tide two of the top three swims
- Tim Korstanje posted the Tide's eighth-fastest 100 butterfly swim with a time of 46.43, ranking him fourth in the event
- In the prelims, Trey Sheils recorded a career-best 51.91 to move to fourth all-time in program history before finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 52.31
- Colten Cryer and Nigel Chambers both recorded NCAA Zone cuts on the 3m board as Cryer's 325.20 in the preliminary round and Chambers' 320.85 in the consolation round surpassed the mark
- Alabama also recorded top performances from Kaique Alves (1:31.78) and Toni Dragoja (1:33.61), who placed third and fourth in the 200 freestyle, respectively, narrowly missing their career-best swims in the event
- Avery Wiseman finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.89

- Alabama will close the meet Friday with competition beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT for swimming and 10:30 a.m. for diving
- Finals for both swimming and diving will start at 4:30 p.m.
