Roan Jones dominated the opening set but fell after a third-set tiebreaker to the fourth-seeded player in the tournament Carl Emil Overbeck
WACO, Texas – Alabama's Roan Jones fell in a three-set battle against fourth-seeded Carl Emil Overbeck from California on Tuesday in the Round of 64 at the NCAA Singles Championships.
Jones jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the fourth-seeded player. Overbeck would battle back to trail by one at 3-2, but Jones won the next three games to take the opening set victory, 6-2.
Both players traded games in the second set before Overbeck found the round's first break in the ninth game. He would go on to win the 10th game to secure a 6-4 second-set victory and force a third set.
Jones secured the first break in the final round, taking a 3-1 advantage, before extending his lead to 4-1. The UA junior would drop three straight games before meeting at a 6-6 tie. Jones would be unable to overcome an early advantage by Overbeck, falling 7-1 in the tiebreaker to conclude his time at the national event.
