The Crimson Tide packed a record 3,800 fans into Foster Auditorium
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball faced off against two-time defending national champion Texas Sunday afternoon, falling in three sets in front of a Foster Auditorium record crowd of 3,800.
The Sunday crowd of 3,800 beats the previous Foster Auditorium record of 2,169 set on Nov. 21, 2014 against Auburn. Alabama (11-13, 3-10 SEC) scored the first point of the opening set and held the lead three more times before No. 14 Texas (15-6, 10-3 SEC) started to pull away ahead 17-14, ending the frame on an 8-2 run to win, 25-16. Set two was another close contest, as neither team held a lead larger than two points until the Longhorns scored three in a row to move in front 19-16. Leading by the same margin in the closing points at 23-20, a block gave Texas set point at 24-20. A kill from Kaleigh Palmer in the next rally sparked a 3-0 run from Alabama to draw within a point but a Tide attack error ultimately gave the Longhorns a narrow victory in set two, 25-23. Texas jumped ahead to an early 8-2 lead in the third, holding on to win by double digits, 25-15, to complete the sweep.
FROM HEAD COACH RASHINDA REED
"I'm proud of our ladies. I feel like we battled with them. I would have liked us to play a little cleaner but I thought our attitude and effort was what we were aiming for. There were moments where we took some dips but we pulled ourselves out of it. If we can come out as hard as we did to start this match over our next three, I feel like we can play with anybody. I love the crowd today and the support of this community. I talk about the support from Tuscaloosa all the time and it's great to see the love for these ladies and I really appreciate it so much."
