Former Alabama players make an impact in Week 8 of the NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League concluded Week 8 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
Second-year tailback Jahmyr Gibbs shined in the Detroit Lions' 52-14 rout of the Tennessee Titans. Gibbs needed only 11 carries to rack up a season-high 127 yards, highlighted by a 70-yard touchdown. Staying in the NFC North, Josh Jacobs turned in a stellar performance of his own in Green Bay's 30-27 victory over Jacksonville. Jacobs carried the ball 25 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns in the Packers' winning effort.
Eagles teammates Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith were key to Philadelphia's 37-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Hurts completed 16-of-20 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown while adding 37 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries. Smith was on the receiving end of six of Hurts' completions, totaling 85 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown reception. Rounding out the offensive group was Calvin Ridley of the Titans, who hauled in 10 passes for 143 yards.
Xavier McKinney continued making his case for Defensive Player of the Year, totaling six tackles, a pass breakup and his league-leading sixth interception of the season. Josh Jobe joined McKinney in the interception club after earning the first pick of his career during Seattle's loss to the Buffalo Bills. In addition to the takeaway, Jobe contributed seven total tackles and a pass defended for the Seahawks.
Will Anderson Jr. stuffed the stat sheet in Houston's 23-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. The second-year defensive lineman totaled seven tackles, including a sack, to go with a fumble recovery. Anderson Jr. is tied for third in the NFL with 7.5 sacks, including at least one sack in each of his last three outings. In Washington, Daron Payne posted four tackles, one of which was a sack, in addition to a quarterback hit as part of the Commanders' last-second win. Baltimore defensive back Eddie Jackson capped the defensive effort, totaling a season-high 10 tackles and one pass breakup in the Ravens' loss to the Cleveland Browns.
