Former Alabama players make an impact in Week 7 of the NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League concluded Week 7 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
The tailbacks showed out in Week 7, with five former Crimson Tide rushers leading their respective teams to victories. Jahmyr Gibbs played a pivotal role in Detroit's 31-29 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Gibbs totaled 15 attempts for a season-high 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Lions' star added four receptions totaling 44 yards to his totals. Najee Harris surpassed the century mark on the ground for the second straight week against a talented New York Jets defense. Harris finished the night with 102 yards and a touchdown on 21 rushes in the Pittsburgh Steelers' 37-15 rout of the Jets.
Josh Jacobs and Brian Robinson Jr. posted similar efforts on Sunday, both resulting in wins for their respective squads. Jacobs totaled 76 yards on 12 attempts while also contributing 16 yards and a touchdown on five receptions in the Green Bay Packers' 24-22 victory over Houston. For Washington, Robinson Jr. carried the ball 12 times for 71 yards and one score in the Commanders' 40-7 thrashing of the Carolina Panthers.
Rounding out the running backs was Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens. In primetime on Monday Night Football, Henry accumulated 169 yards on 15 attempts while adding a receiving touchdown from 13 yards away. Henry padded his league-leading totals for rushing attempts (134), rushing yards (873), rushing touchdowns (8), yards per carry (6.5) and rushing yards per game (124.7) thanks to the impressive performance on MNF.
Henry's teammates Marlon Humphrey and Eddie Jackson highlighted the defensive efforts by former Tide standouts. Humphrey recorded two tackles, a pair of pass breakups and two interceptions for the first multi-pick game of his career, while Jackson finished with eight tackles from his safety spot.
Xavier McKinney continued to excel in his first year with the Packers, registering six tackles, including a sack, to go with a quarterback hurry. In Detroit, Brian Branch notched four tackles, two passes defended and an interception. Wrapping up the defensive unit was Levi Wallace of the Broncos, who totaled eight tackles in Denver's 33-10 win over the Saints.
