Alabama Men’s Tennis Opens ITA Southern Regional Championships

The Crimson Tide will have six student-athletes compete in the main draw of both singles and doubles beginning on Thursday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team opens competition at the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Thursday in the main draw for singles and doubles. The six-day event, which begins Wednesday, will be held in Baton Rouge, La., at the LSU Tennis Complex.

Tournament Format
- The single-elimination tournament will begin Wednesday, Oct. 16 with two qualifying rounds of singles play
- The main draw for both singles and doubles will get underway on Thursday, Oct. 17
- A singles and doubles champion will be declared on Monday, Oct. 21
The Crimson Tide
- All six Alabama competitors will open competition on Thursday in the Main Draw Singles Round of 64
- Additionally, UA will have three doubles teams compete with the pairing of Andrii Zimnokh and Zach Foster, Carlos Gimenez-Perez and Matias Ponce De Leon, and Damien Nezar and Roan Jones beginning in the Round of 64
- Zimnokh enters the regional contest ranked No. 62 nationally in singles, as Ponce De Leon notched a national singles ranking of No. 118
- The national ranking earned Zimnokh the No. 3 seeding in the tournament while Ponce De Leon is seeded sixth
- Foster, Jones and Nezar are seeded 9-16 in singles action
- In doubles, Foster and Zimnokh are seeded No. 2 in the region thanks to the pairing's No. 18 national ranking
- Nezar and Jones enter the competition as the No. 5 seed while Gimenez-Perez and Ponce De Leon hold the No. 6 seed
