
Alabama Records a Trio of Facility Records in Loss to Auburn

The Crimson Tide saw two Alabama Aquatic Center records fall on the women’s side and one on the men’s as the team concluded its home finale against the Tigers
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 19/18 Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams shattered a trio of Alabama Aquatic Center records on Friday as the Crimson Tide fell to No. 10/14 Auburn in its final home meet of the year.
Avery Wiseman broke a 23-year-old record in the 200 breaststroke as her 2:08.22 performance topped Anne Poleska's 2:08.85 from 2001. The women's 200 medley relay team of Gaby Van Brunt, Wiseman, Kailyn Winter and Cadence Vincent bettered the facility record by nearly two seconds with a 1:35.81 to beat the previous mark of 1:37.23 set in 2008.
Charlie Hawke paced the men's team with a facility record in the 200 freestyle. His time of 1:32.90 broke the previous record of 1:34.23 set in 2008 by Shaune Fraser.
The Tide would fall overall in the meet with a 167-133 loss on the women's side and a 184.5-115.5 loss on the men's side.
The Women's Meet
- In addition to the facility record, the 200 medley relay team recorded a season-best time of 1:35.81 to capture the ninth-fastest performance nationally this season
- Wiseman's 2:08.22 in the 200 breaststroke placed her 12th nationally this season as she set the Aquatic Center record in the event
- Diana Petkova recorded a pair of individual wins, clocking a season-best time of 49.00 in the 100 freestyle and a 1:58.77 in the 200 individual medley
- Vincent swam a 22.42 in the 50 freestyle to take first place in the event
- Mackenzie Brandt's time of 4:43.33 paced her to a one-second victory in the 500 free
- The reigning SEC Freshman of the Week Van Brunt swam a 52.44 in the 100 butterfly to out touch the Tigers and claim the win
- Liberty Williams recorded UA's second all-time fastest performance in the 1000 freestyle with time of 9:44.21, finishing second in the event
- Ryleigh Rodgers paced UA on the 3m board, scoring a 323.93, second-highest score of the season, for a second-place finish
- Courtney Russo also secured a second-place finish for the Tide with a 276.38 on the 1m board, her second-highest score of the season
- Van Brunt also swam the sixth-fastest 200 butterfly in Alabama history, reaching the wall with a time of 1:57.18 for second place
The Men's Meet
- Hawke and Kaique Alves dominated the 200 freestyle as the Tide claimed the top-two times by over a second and a half
- Both student-athletes would top the prior facility record time (1:34.23) as Hawke posted a 1:32.90 for first place as Alves followed with a 1:33.92
- Hawke would capture his second first-place finish moments later with a time of 4:18.62 in the 500 freestyle
- Michael Deans swept the breaststroke events, tying for first place in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best 53.37, before winning the 200 event by over a second with a time of 1:56.30
- Zarek Wilson, Hawke, Alves and Tim Korstanje flew to the wall in the 400 freestyle relay to capture the top time with a 2:51.33
- Colten Cryer narrowly missed a season-high score on the 3m board as the UA diver finished second in the event with a 339.23
- Leonardo Alcantara rounded out the night with a time of 9:04.78 to rank eighth all-time in program history on his way to a third-place finish in the 1000 freestyle
