
Alabama Concludes Day One of Dual Meet Against Kentucky

The Crimson Tide won 13 events on the opening day of competition
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 19/18 Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving team closed the first of a two-day competition against Kentucky Friday. The Crimson Tide held a 110-78 lead on the men's side, while the women narrowly trailed the Wildcats 96-92.
Overall, UA won 13 events throughout the day including sweeping the 200 medley relay to open the competition.
The Women's Meet
- The women's competition was highlighted by a career-best performance from Gaby Van Brunt and a season-best swim from Avery Wiseman
- Van Brunt dropped over three tenths of a second for a career-best 100 butterfly swim, reaching the wall with a time of 52.60 for a first-place finish
- Wiseman fought for a season-best time in the 100 breaststroke as she clocked a 59.38 to win the event
- Ella Menear, Wisman, Van Brunt and Diana Petkova went 1:38.25 for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay
- Liberty Williams took the top time in the 500 freestyle, reaching the wall with a 4:47.30
- Cadence Vincent's time of 22.64 clinched the 50 free victory as UA went on to take the top three times in the event with the help of Kailyn Winter (22.67) and Jada Surrell-Norwood (22.97)
The Men's Meet
- The men's 200 medley relay team of Tommy Hagar, Kaique Alves, Bernardo Bondra de Almeida and Charlie Hawke recorded a 1:26.16 to pace the event
- Hawke followed his relay win with a pair of individual victories, posting the top time in the 200 (1:33.34) and 500 (4:22.39) freestyle
- Tim Korstanje flew to the wall for a time of 19.76 to win the 50 freestyle
- Colten Cryer paced the diving unit, securing a win on the platform with a score of 223.20
- In the 100 butterfly, Bondra de Almeida recorded a time of 47.08 to earn first in the event
- Trey Sheils edged Kentucky's top 100 breaststroker to claim the win with a time of 53.51
- Eric Stelmar closed the night with a time of 48.13 in the 100 backstroke for the fastest time in the event
