
No. 7 Alabama Opens 2023 Campaign with National Attention

The Crimson Tide is ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll and was picked to finish second in the SEC preseason poll
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team is receiving national attention as the program looks to build off a successful run last season which included an SEC regular season championship and the program's first-ever College Cup appearance.
UA will open the season Thursday night (7 p.m. CT) against DePaul and enters the game as the No. 7 ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, the highest preseason ranking in program history. Additionally, the team was tabbed to finish second in the Southeastern Conference by league coaches.
Season-Opening Quick Hits
- Returning 18 players from last year's College Cup team
- Among the returners is All-American and program record holder for assists, Felicia Knox
- SEC Freshman of the Year Gianna Paul and All-SEC honorees Sasha Pickard and Brook Steere also highlight the returning squad
- UA welcomes nine incoming student-athletes, including two transfers in Itala Gemelli (Dayton) and Isabel Smith (Indiana)
- Freshman goalkeeper Coralie Lallier (Canada) and midfielder Nadia Ramadan (Egypt) have competed on youth national teams
- Defenders Cali Brewer and Kennedy Garcia were invited to the U.S. Soccer National Training Camps and midfielder Taylor Esper was invited to the Youth National Team ID Center
