Mercy Chelangat Named CSC First Team Academic All-American

The announcement marks the second time in Chelangat’s legendary career she was selected by the organization for Academic All-America honors
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama distance ace Mercy Chelangat has been selected as a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American, the organization announced Wednesday. The announcement marks the second time in her legendary career that Chelangat has earned the recognition after first being honored in 2021.
Mercy Chelangat – CSC First Team Academic All-American
- Concluded her illustrious Alabama career with a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter final at the NCAA National Championships, marking back-to-back podium finishes after becoming the first Crimson Tide runner to ever win the individual event title in 2022
- Earned outdoor second team All-SEC honors after her silver-medal performance in the 5,000-meters
- Finished with top-five, national times in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters
- Maintained a 3.90 GPA as a communications studies major
- Helped the women's track and field program to a cumulative GPA of 3.65
- Named the 2023 Indoor Women's Track and Field SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year
