TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama's Alton Davis II and Colby Shelton each earned Freshman All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced on Monday.
The duo were tabbed to the outlet's second team. It is Shelton's second All-America honor as he was named to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's list while both players were selected to the Freshman All-SEC Team by the conference's head coaches.
Alton Davis II
Pitcher
- Grew into the Crimson Tide's closer role and excelled during his rookie campaign
- Led UA with 25 appearances, all in relief
- Totaled eight saves in as many chances while helping the Tide to five of the team's seven total shutouts on the year
- Tied for second in the SEC in saves and finished conference play tied for the league lead with six
- Earned an invite to the 2023 USA Baseball Collegiate National Training Camp
Colby Shelton
Infielder
- One of the top power threats in the country who led UA in home runs and slugging percentage
- Totaled 25 homers to set the Alabama freshman single-season record and tie for third on Alabama's single-season list
- Tied Charlie Condon of Georgia for the SEC single-season freshman home run record
- Recorded six two-homer games on the year while homering in back-to-back contests on five separate occasions
