The right-hander struck out a career-high nine across 7.0 scoreless frames
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After an extended rain delay to start Sunday, Alabama baseball cruised to an 11-0 shutout win over Texas A&M at Blue Bell Park. The Crimson Tide clinched the series with the victory and is now 35-17 on the season and 13-14 in Southeastern Conference play.
Jacob McNairy (6-1) was dominant on Sunday night to earn his sixth win. The right-hander tossed a career-high tying 7.0 scoreless frames, allowing six hits and a walk to go with a career-best nine punchouts. He then turned the ball over to Alton Davis II who worked the final 2.0 innings to secure the shutout.
Alabama put the game out of reach early on the power of two home runs. The first came off the bat of Andrew Pinckney in the first before a grand slam in the second from Tommy Seidl made it a 5-0 ballgame and provided McNairy with all the run support he would need. The Tide added one more run in the seventh and five in the ninth for the 11-0 win.
Seidl led the offense with a 3-for-5 night that included the grand slam, five RBI and a team-high tying two runs scored. Pinckney was close behind with three RBI as part of a 3-for-6 showing with the solo shot and one run scored.
From Interim Head Coach Jason Jackson
"I want to say a big 'thank you' to the Texas A&M grounds crew; those guys worked their tails off today to get the field ready. I'm so proud of our guys, they stayed locked in all day. We got to the ballpark at 1 p.m. today and weren't sure when we were going to be able to play. We came out and put up five runs in those first couple of innings and then obviously (Jacob McNairy) did his thing on the mound."
How It Happened
- T1 | Andrew Pinckney recorded a solo home run to get the Tide on the board. (1-0, Alabama)
- T2 | The Tide loaded the bases to start the inning thanks to a Mac Guscette single followed by a Caden Rose double and a walk to Jim Jarvis. Tommy Seidl cleared the bases in the next at-bat with a grand slam to left. (5-0, Alabama)
- T7 | Seidl and Pinckney each singled to start the seventh and put runners on the corners for Drew Williamson. The Tide first baseman proceeded to cross Seidl from third with a 4-3 groundout. (6-0, Alabama)
- T9 | With two on and two down, Guscette singled to center to score one. Rose added one more with an RBI-single in the next at-bat before a walk to Jarvis loaded the bases and forced a pitching change. Seidl greeted the new arm with an RBI-single before a Pinckney single through the left side added two more. (11-0, Alabama)
