It’s the first conference weekly honor of the season for the Crimson Tide who competes in the Big 12 as an affiliate member
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Days after grabbing five of six wins against Big 12 conference foes, Alabama rowing's First Varsity 8+ collected Boat of the Week honors. The 1V8+ was one of five Crimson Tide crews to take first place last weekend against No. 18 Tennessee and (RV) Oklahoma.
After the first boat of the day came in second place to start the morning of racing, it was the Crimson Tide's 1V8+ crew that kickstarted the five wins in a row, clocking 6:35.7 to take first place over the Lady Vols' and the Sooners' 1V8+ boats. Alabama's crew would finish four seconds ahead of No. 18 Tennessee and 11 seconds better than (RV) Oklahoma.
The announcement marks the first conference weekly honor of the season for the Crimson Tide. In the first couple weeks of the 2023 campaign, it has been both Alabama and fellow Southeastern Conference representative Tennessee, who compete as Big 12 affiliate members, that have taken home the first two Boat of the Week honors.
