
Alabama Track and Field Set for Second Multi-Meet Weekend of Outdoor Season

The Crimson Tide will compete at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla., while a contingent of distance runners will travel to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track and field teams are set to split up for the second time this outdoor season, as the Crimson Tide will compete at the Tom Jones Memorial, hosted by conference foe Florida, while a contingent of distance runners head out west to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Alabama will begin its multi-meet weekend on Thursday night (11:35 p.m. CT) at the Bryan Clay Invitational in the women's 10,000-meter run featuring Elka Machan, Mercy Chelangat and Hilda Olemomoi. It will be the outdoor season debut for both Chelangat and Olemomoi who are coming off first-team All-American performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Alabama men's program enters the weekend ranked No. 7, nationally, in the USTFCCCA week three rankings.
Bryan Clay Invitational
- Alabama will begin in the women's 10,000-meter run starting at 11:35 p.m. CT
- The women are traveling six to Azusa, Calif., while the men's travel list is 18 strong
- The Crimson Tide's distance contingent will compete in the 10,000m, 800m, 5,000m and 1,500m between Thursday and Saturday
Tom Jones Memorial
- Alabama will open the first day of competition at 1 p.m. CT Friday (April 14) in the men's pole vault
- The Tide's travel list will feature 14 women along with 20 men in Gainesville, Fla.
Last Time Out
- At the Joe Walker Invite, Alabama notched its third consecutive event sweep of the outdoor season, as Bobby Colantonio Jr. and Chelsea Igberaese won the men's and women's hammer events
- Both Igberaese (discus | eighth) and Samantha Kunza (hammer | second) both made edits to UA's all-time top-10 list
- In total, the Tide won six event titles, earned 17 top-10 finishes and secured an event sweep during the two-day meet, hosted by conference foe Ole Miss
