
Alabama Signee Essence Cody Set to Compete in McDonald’s All-American Games

Cody is just the second player in program history to make an appearance at the elite event
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's basketball signee and ESPNW five-star prospect Essence Cody will compete at the McDonald's All-American Games on Tuesday.
The 46th annual McDonald's All-American Games will begin at 5:30 p.m. CT at the Toyota Center in Houston. The game will be streamed on ESPN2.
One of the top interior players in the class of 2023, Cody has had a standout senior season with Valdosta High School. In addition to being named a McDonald's All-American, Cody was selected as both a Jersey Mike's Naismith High School Girls All-America and a WBCA High School Coaches' All-America honoree. Cody made her second consecutive appearance on the Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year watchlist. The 6-4 forward is the 22nd-ranked recruit in the country according to ESPNW and was named the top post player in the state of Georgia. Cody is averaging 14.5 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 4.1 bpg and 2.6 spg this season.
Cody is the first Alabama signee in 13 years and just the second in program history to be named a McDonald's All-American, joining Kaneisha Horn who earned the honor in 2010.

- Five-star recruit by ESPNW
- Invited to the Wootten Camp 150 on multiple occasions
- Selected as the 2021-22 Player of the Year and GACA MVP for 2022 for Valdosta High School
- Was named the 2022 No. 1 post player in Georgia in addition to being ranked a top-five overall player in the state
- Ranked 18th by Prospects Nation and 27th by Blue Star
- Was also named a member of the Blue Star 30
- Named a WHO's NXT All-American game nominee
