The Crimson Tide return to Rhoads Stadium Wednesday, hosting UAB at 6 p.m. CT
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the second straight night, Alabama had the bases loaded with a chance to get the walk-off win over Arkansas, but the Crimson Tide could not get it done again on Monday night in the series finale as the Razorbacks held on to win, 2-1, in 10 innings.
Alabama (22-8, 1-2 SEC) took the first lead over Arkansas (22-8, 3-3 SEC) on a two-out solo home run from Emma Broadfoot in the bottom of the second, but the Razorbacks tied it up in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Lauren Camenzind. Arkansas stranded runners at the corners in the top of the fifth and the Crimson Tide left two on base in the sixth, as it remained knotted up at 1-1 heading to the seventh. Both teams went down in order, sending the game to extras. The Razorbacks stranded a runner in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings before Alabama threatened in the home half of the ninth, loading the bases with two away before a flyout ended it and sent it to the 10th.
Arkansas broke the tie in the top of the 10th with a solo home run before the Tide made a push in the bottom half, with three-straight singles from Ashley Prange, Ally Shipman and Bailey Dowling loading the bases with one out. A pair of strikeouts ended the rally and the game as the Razorbacks took the series.
Five different Alabama players had a hit in the game, including the 10th-inning single from Dowling to extend her hitting streak to four games. Broadfoot's home run was her second of the season, her first since the season opener against Lehigh. Montana Fouts (11-4) threw a complete game, setting a new career high with 173 pitches thrown in the losing effort.
From Associate head Coach Alyson Habetz
"The people that have been up in those late game situations haven't had as many opportunities as maybe some of our other players. In that last inning, we get three hits from our veterans back-to-back-to-back, and then maybe a younger player or someone who doesn't have as much experience in those pressure situations comes up. However, that experience alone is going to help us down the road because the more they're in those clutch situations now, even if they don't come through, they know what that pressure and anxiety feels like and it will definitely benefit them in the long run. Those young players just need more opportunities to do it."
